IslandWood is partnering with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and local school districts from across western Washington to provide a residential week of science learning for middle school aged children of migrant workers.
Because of the work requirements of their parents, children of migrant workers in agriculture, fishery, and forestry often find themselves changing schools and school districts several times per year. These students are at particular risk of falling behind in critical skill areas like math and science.
This week at IslandWood will be an immersion of outdoor project-based learning experiences that will provide real-world context for classroom subjects and keep these students excited about science, science learning, and science related careers.
For the next five days participants and staff at IslandWood will be updating this blog so that everyone will have a chance to hear "Voices from the Field."
